Besiktas spent weeks pursuing a deal and publicly acknowledged negotiations with Salah’s camp, although talks ultimately failed to produce an agreement amid reports of disagreements over financial terms and image rights.
With Besiktas’s pursuit stalling, another Turkish club has moved into the picture. Fresh reports now suggest Trabzonspor have made significant progress in their efforts to sign the former Liverpool forward.
According to Turkish journalist Yagız Sabuncuoglu, Trabzonspor have reached a two-year agreement with Salah over a proposed move to the Super Lig. The report claims both parties have agreed the framework of a contract, although the transfer has not yet been officially announced by either side.
His latest update follows earlier reports that Trabzonspor had opened talks with the player’s representatives after Besiktas’s negotiations broke down.
The development marks another twist in a transfer saga that has involved several clubs during the summer. Mohamed Salah had previously been strongly linked with Besiktas, but those negotiations became increasingly complicated after reports of disputes surrounding agent commissions and commercial rights.
Trabzonspor’s interest first emerged at the beginning of August, when reports in Turkey claimed club officials had met Salah’s representatives and presented a formal proposal.
Sabuncuoglu reported at the time that the Super Lig side had offered the Egyptian international a two-year contract and were optimistic about their chances of reaching an agreement.
Salah remains one of the most sought-after free agents following the end of his Liverpool career.
