Leeds United appear to be edging closer to completing a deal with Manchester City for James Trafford.
The goalkeeper appears to be on the brink of completing a £40million move to Elland Road. This would make Trafford Leeds’ most expensive signing of all time.
Naturally, as the days go by, supporters are beginning to get anxious when it comes to the potential deal falling apart.
But Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major hint that suggests Trafford will be a Leeds player sooner rather than later.
Fabrizio Romano reveals latest Manchester City transfer dealings
Last week, Romano reported that Man City held an interest in Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli to be their new backup shot-stopper.
Ten years on from his first stint in Manchester, the Argentinian, who is now 34, could be set for a return.
Romano has now reported that City have sent their first official bid to Marseille for Rulli. Negotiations between the two clubs are now said to be underway.
This news is music to the ears of Leeds supporters. It essentially confirms that Trafford will leave Man City this summer.
Trafford is expected to have his Leeds medical this week. Hopefully, that will be the conclusion of this transfer saga.
James Trafford’s arrival will hopefully speed up our transfer business elsewhere
To get a deal for a player of Trafford’s calibre over the line, understandably, it would have been all hands on deck to get it done.
But with it looking set to be completed this week, hopefully this means we can begin to fully focus on strengthening the other areas of our squad that need attention.
Striker is a position we are reportedly looking to strengthen. Gabriel Gudmundsson’s injury troubles in pre-season are another reminder that we also need to sign a backup for the Swede.
We have just three pre-season games remaining. So, it would be in our best interests to quickly accelerate moves for these players in other positions.
If the 49ers were wise, they would have been working on starting some of these talks in the background of the Trafford deal.
In the coming days, reports should begin to emerge linking us with players in other positions. If not, that is arguably a cause for concern.
