**Moises Caicedo has welcomed Danny Welbeck’s arrival at Chelsea, admitting he was delighted to reunite with his former Brighton teammate in Hong Kong.**
Welbeck completed his move to Stamford Bridge on Friday before joining Xabi Alonso’s squad for the second leg of Chelsea’s pre-season tour.
Caicedo linked up with the group earlier this week and immediately sought out the 35-year-old, who helped him settle during their time together at Brighton.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against Juventus, Caicedo told [Chelsea’s official website](https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/caicedo-so-excited-to-reunite-with-welbeck): “I’m so happy he’s signed.”
He added: “As a player and as a person, Danny is top. He helped me a lot when I arrived at Brighton.”
Caicedo believes Welbeck can provide more than another option for Alonso in attack.
The Ecuador international highlighted the striker’s mentality and influence inside the dressing room, having experienced those qualities first-hand at the Amex Stadium.
Welbeck scored 13 Premier League goals last season, the best league return of his career, before Chelsea moved to add his experience to a young squad.
His arrival was followed by Jordan Henderson joining the Blues, giving Alonso another player with extensive Premier League and international experience.
Caicedo believes both veterans can play an important role in helping Chelsea’s younger players develop.
Chelsea have deliberately adjusted their recruitment strategy this summer, adding experienced players alongside younger signings such as Geovany Quenda and Marco Palestra.

“I am so happy to have him here and he is going to help us a lot for sure,” he said. “With his mentality, he has everything and he is going to be so important for us.”
Welbeck has already joined the squad in Hong Kong and could receive his first Chelsea minutes against Juventus on Wednesday.
For Caicedo, the reunion is already one of the most welcome developments of Chelsea’s summer.
