Bruno Guimaraes is expected to leave Newcastle United’s training camp in Spain early as Arsenal push to strike a deal.
Bruno Guimaraes is with Newcastle United at La Manga despite Arsenal pushing to strike a deal with the Brazilian midfielder.
Guimaraes joined up with the Newcastle squad in Spain on Monday after a transfer bid from Arsenal was rejected by the Magpies. The clubs remain in advanced talks over a potential transfer, with Guimaraes already informing the club of his desire to leave.
The 28-year-old was an internal critic of Alexander Isak’s actions to force through a move to Liverpool last summer but has so far refrained from resorting to such antics. Although he didn’t travel with the team to Spain and instead joined up later, official club sources insist Guimaraes stuck to a pre-arranged plan and has not acted improperly to agitate a move.
The midfielder has even been pictured riding a bike to Newcastle training at La Manga on Tuesday. Despite claims from elsewhere that he was set to be undergoing his Arsenal medical by now.
In the meantime, Guimaraes’ father, Dick Gomez, has shared images of himself on social media at the TransferRoom LIVE Deal Day event in Madrid.
The event is described as ‘transfer speed dating’ and is ‘tailored to help clubs and agencies finalise crucial moves ahead of the transfer deadline’.
Gomez was there representing the Next Gen Brazil agency which he co-owns along with Guimaraes’ agent, Alexis Malavolta. He also posted an image alongside football agent Nojan Bedroud from Sport Invest, tagging agents Giuliano Bertolucci and Malavolta, who have been working to strike a deal with Arsenal.
The social media update, while not inherently an indicator of an imminent transfer in itself, will no doubt add fuel to the fire and speculation surrounding Guimaraes’ future and it shows those close to the player are active and making moves.
The Newcastle captain still has two years left on his contract at St James’ Park, though the club hold an option to extend the deal by a further year. It is understood Newcastle and Arsenal are close to reaching an agreement with Guimaraes set to be allowed to leave the La Manga training camp early to finalise the move.
Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle United
Guimaraes has written his name into Newcastle folklore since his £40million arrival from Lyon in January 2022. In addition to his 31 goals in 195 appearances, Guimaraes has helped the Magpies twice qualify for the Champions League and end a 70-year domestic trophy drought by lifting the Carabao Cup as captain at Wembley Stadium in March 2025.
Since then, the 28-year-old has seen top assets such as Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali leave the club. Eddie Howe has also left his position as head coach as part of a transitional summer for the club.
