Manchester United are the latest club to join the race for Barcelona target Jorge Salinas.
On Tuesday, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain of the Red Devils moving in to sign the Racing Santander player.
His release clause increased from €8m to €16m in July, and Manchester United won’t have a problem triggering it.
The Premier League side have identified the left-back as an alternative to Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall. Atlético Madrid, the Magpies and FC Porto have also expressed interest.
Barca face Manchester United threat
Wednesday’s edition of Sport covers the latest on the Premier League side and Barcelona.
The newspaper relays claims made elsewhere in Spain that the La Liga winners are the frontrunners, and then shares their own take.
Racing Santander will only let him leave for €16m, while Hansi Flick’s side haven’t met that demand so far. The latter don’t intend to pay this amount and are exploring options for an agreement.
Barca have to be wary of other clubs as ‘competition could intensify in the coming weeks’. Sport immediately mention Manchester United and Atlético Madrid as other clubs keen on signing Jorge Salinas.
Manchester United have to convince player
The newspaper claims the Spain U19 international only wants to join Barca, amid interest from others, including Michael Carrick’s side.
He believes the project under Hansi Flick, and their commitment to young players, are ideal for him to continue his development.
Therefore, the fullback is waiting for the two clubs to reach an agreement.
Jorge Salinas wants to leave ‘without creating a conflict’ with the newly promoted La Liga side.
Barcelona are firm that a transfer will only take place if Racing Santander lower the price or if the two clubs find another way to unblock the negotiations.
The Camp Nou side’s reluctance to offer €16m is an opportunity for Manchester United and other clubs to wrap up this operation quickly. This would only be possible if they were to convince the player.
It’s worth noting that Sport is a Catalan newspaper and therefore often biased towards Barcelona. Indeed, it’s rare they concede a player doesn’t only want a move to the Camp Nou.
There could be more developments in the coming weeks.
