Preparations: Chelsea face Juventus on Wednesday at Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong
Chelsea continue their pre-season preparations today with a high-profile friendly against Juventus. The Blues’ summer tour of Australia and Asia has moved on to Hong Kong, where they meet Serie A giants at the impressive Kai Tak Sports Park in a game that kicks off at 12:30pm BST in the UK. Xabi Alonso will be eager for his side to bounce back quickly from Saturday’s last-gasp 2-1 loss to 10-man rivals Tottenham, having kicked off their trip with a thrilling 6-4 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers.
Chelsea have seen their options significantly bolstered by six new arrivals including new signing Danny Welbeck and the returning Mykhailo Mudryk, plus the addition of set-piece coach Austin MacPhee. However, Jordan Henderson remains on holiday following the World Cup and will have his wrist injury assessed before joining training. Juventus have yet to concede a goal during their pre-season campaign so far, drawing with FC Basel before routine wins over Standard Liege and Nice.
Luciano Spalletti has added Randal Kolo Muani and Kerim Alajbegovic to his squad in recent days, though the latter - also a target for Chelsea - will not feature this afternoon. Follow Chelsea vs Juventus live below!
Chelsea team news
In his pre-match press conference, Xabi Alonso declared both Danny Welbeck and Mykhailo Mudryk available to play for Chelsea this afternoon.
Both players joined up with the squad in Hong Kong on Monday, with Welbeck having completed his shock transfer from Brighton last week for an undisclosed fee.
Mudryk, meanwhile, is looking to make his first appearance for Chelsea since November 2024, having resolved his anti-doping disciplinary proceedings with the Football Association (FA) to put him back in contention with immediate effect.
Pedro Neto also joined the squad in Hong Kong earlier this week after a post-World Cup break, along with new signing Geovany Quenda, who has now recovered from the injury that saw him miss out on the initial Sydney trip.
Goalkeepers Mike Penders and Gabriel Slonina were the other players to arrive for this leg of the tour, though Jordan Henderson remains on holiday following England’s run to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
He will also need his arm injury assessed before returning to training, having finalised his own switch to Stamford Bridge on Monday.
