football.london understands that Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer were left out of the Chelsea squad to face Juventus as a precaution, having suffered knocks ahead of the pre-season friendly at the Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong.
On Tuesday, Colwill was absent from open training, while Palmer trained individually from the main squad. In their absence, Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo were given the nod to start at centre-half, while Joao Pedro dropped into a central attacking midfield position.
Robert Sanchez returned to the starting lineup after a brief spell on the sidelines with a minor knock. Marco Palestra and Jorrel Hato remained at full-back, meanwhile, in the middle of the park, Moises Caicedo and Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli, who's just 16, made their first starts of the pre-season tour.
Qeovany Quenda was also given his first chance under the new Blues manager, replacing Estevao Willian on the right. On the left, Jamie Gittens held down his place in the side, having made a great impression so far this summer.
With Pedro filling in for Palmer, Danny Welbeck was tasked with leading the frontline. Mykhailo Mudryk, who hasn't featured in a competitive game for Chelsea since November 2024, was named on the bench.
