Cody Gakpo has already given Spurs the green light for a move to London this summer, with talks now underway with his agents while they wait on Liverpool for a decision.
On Tuesday, a report from Caught Offside claimed that the Dutchman has expressed a willingness to join the Lily Whites,
A £72m valuation has been set by Liverpool, which is £7m more than they sold Luis Diaz for last summer. Bayern Munich paid £65m for the Colombian but he only had two years left on his deal.
Gakpo has four years remaining on his £250,000 per week basic contract, which includes an extra £62.5k weekly bonus dependent on performance, taking the total weekly wage to £312k/week. This may be why Liverpool are valuing him at a higher rate than Diaz.
It may also be due to the inflated 2026 transfer market, which has seen players move for much higher than expected transfer fees.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Spurs and Cody Gakpo’s agents are in direct talks over a potential move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer
Romano said: “Tottenham are in direct talks with Cody Gakpo’s camp over a possible move this summer.
“Deal depends on Liverpool decision; doors closed back in July but now could depend on financial package/Barcola pursuit.
“Spurs are trying.”

Gakpo departure could fund Ibrahim Mbaye transfer
Selling Gakpo could well provide the funds needed to sign Ibrahim Mbaye from PSG, after claims surfaced late on Tuesday evening suggesting that the Reds are now moving to sign the Senegal international.
The 18-year-old will reportedly cost in the region of £42m, and so selling Gakpo would provide the money needed to make the transfer happen, with more leftover.
There is an argument to be made, however, that selling Gakpo and replacing him with Mbaye – even if Bradley Barcola is also joined – will leave Liverpool light in attack.
The current consensus is that Liverpool need Barcola and another winger before a Gakpo sale is even brought into the equation. Selling him would mean Liverpool would need Barcola, Mbaye and another winger on top of that.
That seems doubtful, although links to Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh persist.
