Manchester City have reportedly made contact with Chelsea winger Pedro Neto as they explore a possible summer move for the Portugal international.
The Premier League giants are believed to be monitoring Neto’s situation at Stamford Bridge, with the forward emerging as a potential target for Enzo Maresca’s side ahead of the close of the transfer window.
The interest has created an unexpected transfer situation for CHELSEA, who only signed Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2024 after paying a significant fee for his services.
The 26-year-old arrived with a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous wide attackers, and despite injury problems during his career, he has shown flashes of the quality that made him one of Europe’s most exciting wingers.
Reports suggest Manchester City’s interest is linked to their plans to strengthen their attacking options, with Neto viewed as a possible solution if changes are made to their current wing options. Former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is also said to admire the player after working with him at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are reportedly looking for a substantial fee before considering any deal, with figures around £70 million being mentioned. However, the Blues are understood to be reluctant to lose a player who could play an important role under new manager Xabi Alonso next season.
Why Chelsea should keep Pedro Neto at Stamford Bridge
The Portuguese winger offers something that many Chelsea attackers do not — direct running, experience in the Premier League and the ability to change games in one moment. His pace and willingness to attack defenders one-on-one give Chelsea a different dimension, especially against teams that sit deep.
Under Alonso, Neto could become even more influential. The former Bayer Leverkusen manager has traditionally encouraged his wide players to operate aggressively, creating overloads in attacking areas while quickly transitioning when possession is won. Neto’s ability to carry the ball at speed and create chances from wide positions fits naturally into that style.
Chelsea’s squad remains filled with talented young players, but Neto provides a balance of youth and experience. Losing him would remove one of the few established Premier League attackers in the squad and could leave Alonso relying heavily on developing players during a crucial season.
His versatility is another reason CHELSEA should resist selling. Neto can operate on either wing, play as an advanced creator and contribute goals and assists. Those qualities could prove valuable during a long campaign where injuries and fixture congestion will test squad depth.
Chelsea are building towards becoming a consistent challenger again, and selling a player who can be a match-winner may send the wrong message. A large transfer fee is tempting, but replacing Neto’s pace, creativity and attacking threat could cost more than the money received.
