Liverpool right-back depth chart

Liverpool right-back depth chart

Liverpool’s depth has been called into question in recent weeks as Liverpool prepare for the start of the 2026/27 season.

One particular area of concern is right back, where Liverpool have struggled to replace the consistency of Trent Alexander-Arnold since he left for Real Madrid.

All depth charts are personal opinion and are also reflective of the fact that we haven’t seen Andoni Iraola lead Liverpool into a competitive fixture yet. There will also be players who feature in the depth charts of multiple positions.

1 Conor Bradley- injured

Conor Bradley is still an exceptional young talent at just 23 and is capable of locking down the starting role at right back, but his recurrent injury problems have prevented him from getting a consistent starting role in the team.

In the 2025/26 season alone, he missed 33 Liverpool games, while in 2024/25 he missed 21 games and in 2023/24, he missed 29.

2 Jeremie Frimpong

Jeremie Frimpong was signed last summer but immediately showed that his mentality was much more on the attacking role of a full-back than the level of defensive control that is required.

Iraola has already made reference to the fact that Frimpong may be used as a winger more often than in defence.

3 Joe Gomez- injured

Gomez has never been able to hit the full potential at Liverpool as his seasons have always been disrupted heavily by injury. This season looks like it’s not going to be any different. Just seven minutes into the first preseason friendly he picked up another injury and will miss the start of the season.

4 Dominik Szoboszlai

Szoboszlai will be higher up the depth chart in many other positions but he shifts potsition to suit the team. He does do quite often last season and when the three above him were injured, had to play at right-back.

While not ideal, Szoboszlai is more than capable here.

5 Calvin Ramsay

Ramsay joined Liverpool in 2022 having broken into the Aberdeen first team. He is still only 23 and has one cap for Scotland, but has been unable to cement a role in the Liverpool squad. While he has played during preseason it is unclear whether Liverpool will push for another loan or keep him in the first team squad.
