Young midfielder has been linked with an exit from Tottenham.
Tottenham Hotspur are waiting on Inter Milan to progress their deal for Cristian Romero. The centre-back’s exit has been expected all summer, but the finer details of a switch to Inter Milan are still being finalised.
Spurs head coach Roberto De Zerbi has acknowledged Romero’s desire to seek a new challenge following five seasons in North London, publicly confirming his intention to respect the 2026 World Cup finalist’s choice. A verbal agreement of €40 million has been reached between the clubs. While a consensus on the transfer fee has already been established between Tottenham and Inter Milan, final approval from the Italian champions hinges on personal terms.
There is slightly less comfort around Lucas Bergvall’s situation as he considers a change of scenery. Following the big-money signings of Sandro Tonali and Lucas Bergvall, it became clear that Lucas Bergvall is keen on a new challenge. Both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United have had offers rejected, with De Zerbi having spoken to the young Swede personally to reassure him of his role at White Hart Lane.
Nottingham Forest identify Lucas Bergvall alternative
Nottingham Forest have been showing the most interest in signing Bergvall. They have identified him as a replacement for Elliot Anderson and tabled a bid of £38m in July, which was swiftly rejected by the Lilywhites. The Tricky Trees are yet to return with an improved bid.
Spurs have slapped a £60 million price tag on the Swedish midfielder, which is perhaps to scare off his suitors. After starting only a handful of 23 Premier League appearances and enduring three separate injury spells in what was a disrupted last season, the £60 million valuation of the youngster certainly has raised eyebrows.
With Tottenham in no mood to negotiate, Forest have switched their attention elsewhere. According to a report from talkSPORT, Oliver Glasner’s side are exploring a move for Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders as an alternative to Bergvall.
Tijjani Reijnders only arrived at Manchester City from AC Milan last year. After a promising start to life at the Etihad Stadium, the midfielder fell out of favour. The Dutchman’s game time dipped in the second half of the season as he made just two league starts between the start of February and the end of the campaign.
The report adds that Man City could be open to cashing in on Reijnders and recouping some funds, despite the release of Bernardo Silva and the potential exit of Real Madrid target Rodri.
The onus is now on Forest whether to come closer to Tottenham’s asking price of Bergvall, or try to sign Reijnders from Man City. Should the Midlands club go for the latter, Newcastle United may get a free run at the Tottenham starlet.
