With his managerial career in tatters after an indifferent spell at Everton before his return to Chelsea, the Stamford Bridge legend was forced to drop into the Championship. He took over a struggling Coventry.

But Lampard has reminded all that he can be an excellent manager, guiding Coventry back into the top tier. It was a brilliant season for Coventry, with only one relegated team being promoted, in Ipswich.
Now, Lampard is tasked with keeping Coventry in the Premier League, but he has managed to get revenge on Chelsea and BlueCo in the transfer market before the Premier League season has started.

Already a 15-time Ghana international, Yirenkyi has played over 50 times for Nordsjaelland in Denmark. Lampard has moved to lure the youngster to Coventry. The deal eclipses record signing Carl Rushworth.
Romano said on X that Coventry are closing in on Yirenkyi: “Coventry City have agreed a deal to sign Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from FC Nordsjælland! Fee worth €27m plus €3m add-ons.”
BlueCo wanted Yirenkyi to join Strasbourg and then Chelsea
Lampard has not only signed a real talent, but he’s managed to get revenge on BlueCo. According to Caught Offside, BlueCo wanted to sign Yirenkyi from Nordsjaelland, initially for sister side Strasbourg.
But there was a long-term vision for Yirenkyi, a vision which has seen Valentin Barco and Emmanuel Emegha move on to Chelsea this summer. They felt Yirenkyi had the potential to join Chelsea, eventually.
Instead, he will be playing for Coventry next season, and no doubt, if he impresses for Lampard’s men, his value will skyrocket. If Chelsea remain interested in Yirenkyi, they will have to pay a whole lot more
