Liverpool’s squad had just one day off between travelling back from the USA and returning to pre-season at the AXA Training Centre.

The Reds landed back on Monday morning and were back being put through their paces at a windy Kirkby on Wednesday.

Andoni Iraola has almost his full squad to work with now, with Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Alisson, plus new signing Victor Munoz, joining up with the rest of their teammates.

Jeremie Frimpong was also part of the group, allaying injury fears after he was withdrawn in the final friendly of the US tour on Sunday.

More worryingly, though, was Jeremy Jacquet‘s absence. The Frenchman was expected to take part against Leeds in Chicago but was left out as a precaution as he continues recovery from a shoulder injury sustained in February.

The French centre-back returned to training early but sat out all three friendlies in the US after suffering from some discomfort.

However, with Van Dijk, Gakpo and Munoz now back among the mix, the squad has a much more first-team feel to it, which is emphasised by six youngsters from the US tour squad being cut.

Those are 16-year-old winger Josh Abe, forwards Josh Sonni-Lambie and Will Wright, left-back Calum Scanlon, centre-back Mor Talla Ndiaye and goalkeeper Bailey Hall.

Youngsters Luke Chambers, Kieran Morrison and Lewis Koumas have, as expected, remained with the first team and will be involved in Sunday’s friendly at Anfield against AS Monaco (2.30pm kick off).

James McConnell, Stefan Bajcetic and Wataru Endo are also part of the squad.
