Liverpool could rival Arsenal for £60m-rated England international
We’ve made our feelings on Liverpool’s defensive options very, very clear.
To put it bluntly, it’s just not good enough. Not in terms of quality, but based on availability, experience and their respective injury records, particularly in central defence.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Ezri Konsa, whose stock has risen massively in recent seasons owing to his performances for Aston Villa and England.
Arsenal’s interest in the England international is well documented and the Reds’ name has been mentioned as well. But now, we’ve heard it from a reliable source: The Guardian.
Liverpool could rival Arsenal for Ezri Konsa
Earlier this week, there was an outrageous report from the Spanish media that Arsenal have bid €75m for Konsa.
We doubted those claims at the time as it was a bit fishy for a rumour involving an English player and an English club to originate from Spain.
It’s been a few days since that report and nothing has happened, so it’s safe to write it off as paper talk.
However, according to the Guardian, Arsenal’s interest is genuine as the club need cover for the injured William Saliba.
Ed Aarons, who is the author of the Guardian piece in question, claims Liverpool could rival the Gunners for the Aston Villa man’s signature, who is valued at £60m.
Sky Sports claim Liverpool will not sign a central defender this summer as they wait patiently for the likes of Jeremy Jacquet, Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez to return from injuries.
However, with Conor Bradley also out, signing a player like Konsa – who can slot in at right back and in central defence – could prove to be invaluable, even for £60m.
