Chelsea avoid points reduction after FA slaps a fine of £10 million on them for breaching FA rules
Chelsea
Chelsea have been handed a major lifeline ahead of the next season. Their points won’t be deducted for the 2026-27 season, as per a decision given by Football Association [FA].
The Blues get relief from points deduction in FA verdict
Chelsea have been fined for violating the FA rules, as reported by BBCSport. The West London club have been levied a total fine of £10 million. They have also been handed a suspended ban for breaching the rules related to payment of agents between 2009 and 2022. However, the club’s points won’t be deducted for the next season.
This is because the club owners admitted that they had breached the FA rules on multiple occasions. They also revealed that £47 million was paid to unknown agents and other parties for the transfers between 2011 and 2018. This was also the reason why Chelsea were handed the suspended ban.
FA mentioned in their press brief that the original fine was £26 million. However, it was reduced by a third to £17.25m, and then further to £10 million due to the Blues’ self-reporting, as well as the fines already paid by the club to UEFA and the Premier League. The Football Association further added in their statement that an appropriate fine would set a tough example for other clubs in the future.
The Blues’ overall performance in the 2025-26 season
Chelsea experienced a wild ride last year. The Blues struggled to make a good impression at the Premier League as they finished in 10th place. They were also eliminated in the Round of 16 at the UEFA Champions League. However, they made it to the semifinals of the EFL Cup. Chelsea also made it to the FA Cup final, where they lost to Manchester City 1-0.
Apart from that, the club is also undergoing a major overhaul. Several players like Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, Djordje Petrovic, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have left Stamford Bridge after the 2025-26 season. Even Marc Cucurella and Andrey Santos have left Chelsea for Real Madrid and Manchester United respectively. Although Enzo Fernandez hasn’t officially confirmed it, there are strong rumors circulating about his transfer to Real Madrid.
However, the management is not too worried about the same. Top players like Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Jordan Henderson, and Danny Welbeck have already been signed by the Blues for the next season. Even players like Pep Chavarria, Adam Wharton, Manu Kone are on the team’s wishlist.

How will Chelsea overcome their inconsistencies?
Xabi Alonso is preparing furiously for the 2026-27 **football**season. It is make or break for him. He knows that the Blues need to be consistent and dedicated towards regaining their lost momentum.
One of the major reasons behind Chelsea’s inconsistency in the 2025-26 season was the lack of stable management. When Enzo Maresca left the club in early 2026, the management struggled to find an experienced manager. Three managers came and left the West London club within the first five months of 2026. Eventually, Xabi Alonso was appointed as the new manager for the 2026-27 season.
Chelsea have had a close shave with the current FA verdict. However, if they want to avoid such things in the future, they need to be in prime form. Xabi Alonso is already working on creating a stronger, reliable side that can help the Blues regain their status as the powerhouse of European football. He led Bayer Leverkusen to a historic Bundesliga title in the 2023-24 season.
