Christian Norgaard has completed his permanent move from Arsenal to Everton after the two clubs agreed a deal worth around £7 million.
The experienced Denmark international brings his one-year spell at the Emirates Stadium to an end after seeking greater first-team opportunities.
Norgaard joined Arsenal from Brentford last summer as Mikel Arteta looked to add experience and leadership to a squad preparing for another Premier League title challenge.
Although highly regarded within the dressing room, the 32-year-old found regular minutes difficult to come by in a midfield packed with quality.
He made 20 appearances across all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign, including seven in the Premier League, as Arsenal ended their 22-year wait to lift the title.
Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi established themselves as Arteta’s preferred midfield pairing, while Myles Lewis-Skelly’s emergence and Mikel Merino’s return from injury further increased competition for places.
Despite his limited role on the pitch, Norgaard earned praise throughout the season for his professionalism and influence behind the scenes.
The midfielder has now opted for a fresh challenge at Everton, where he is expected to play a much more prominent role under David Moyes.
“There were many factors to it,” Norgaard told Everton‘s official media after completing the move.
“I felt I needed a change and to play a bigger football role.”
“When I spoke to David Moyes and others at the club involved in the transfer, I heard about the whole project and I was very intrigued.”
“Coming here just makes that feeling even stronger.”
Everton moved for Norgaard following the departure of veteran midfielder Idrissa Gueye at the end of his contract.
The Dane becomes the club’s latest summer signing after Hayden Hackney, Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George all arrived as Moyes continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new campaign.
Before joining Arsenal, Norgaard spent six successful years at Brentford, making almost 200 appearances and captaining the club after helping them establish themselves in the Premier League.
For Arsenal, his departure continues a summer of squad evolution.
Leandro Trossard has already moved on, while Andrea Berta has strengthened Arteta’s options with the arrivals of Christos Tzolis, Illan Meslier and other new additions as the Premier League champions prepare to defend their crown.
Although his time in north London lasted only a season, Norgaard leaves with a Premier League winners’ medal and the respect of teammates and coaching staff alike before embarking on a new challenge on Merseyside.
