Chelsea defender set for medical ahead of £30m exit

Trevoh Chalobah is set to undergo a medical with Como ahead of completing a transfer worth around £30million from Chelsea.

The academy graduate has already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with Cesc Fabregas’ side, while Chelsea and Como have reached an agreement over the transfer package.

The latest reporting says Chalobah is now due to complete his medical before formally ending an association with Chelsea which began when he joined the academy as an eight-year-old. The deal is understood to be worth around £25m up front plus approximately £5m in add-ons.

The move represents the conclusion of negotiations which have continued throughout much of the summer.

Chelsea initially rejected several Como approaches as they held firm on their valuation. ReadChelsea reported last month that an offer worth €25m plus €5m in add-ons was considered insufficient, with the Blues seeking improved terms before approving Chalobah’s departure.

Como have now moved far enough to get the deal over the line.

The final package has also been reported at €30m plus €6m in bonuses, with Chelsea retaining a sell-on clause. Chalobah had made it clear he was interested in the move, which offers him the chance to play Champions League football under former Chelsea midfielder Fabregas.

His departure will also further reduce Xabi Alonso’s overloaded centre-back group.

Chelsea have already signed Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, while Axel Disasi is the subject of a formal Palace offer and other defenders could still leave before the window closes.

Chalobah made 151 senior appearances for Chelsea after progressing through Cobham and leaves having become an England international.

Provided there are no issues during his medical, the 27-year-old is now on course to complete his move to Como.
