A new bus service should make it easier for people to get to Anfield

Liverpool FC fans will from this weekend have a new way to travel to Anfield as a shuttle bus service launches from Bootle.
From Sunday (August 9), the day of Liverpool's pre-season game against AS Monaco, people will be able to park in or take public transport to Bootle and then get the new bus, which will start running three hours before kick-off.
It comes after matchday shuttle services were introduced between Bootle Strand Shopping Centre and Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The new 968 service will run from Bootle Bus Station stand 4 to Anfield, dropping passengers at the Everton Valley bus stop.
Sefton Council hopes that the new trial will “further establish Bootle as a key matchday transport hub for football supporters travelling to major fixtures across the city region.
“Fans will be able to take advantage of convenient parking options, public transport connections and dedicated shuttle services.
“This, in turn, reduces congestion making journeys to and from matches easier and more efficient.”
The council also said the Hill Dickinson shuttle had brought new visitors in to Bootle, which had created opportunities for local businesses.
Former Liverpool vice-captain and Bootle native Jamie Carragher said: “Matchdays are about more than just the 90 minutes, they’re about the whole experience for supporters.
“Having reliable transport options can make a big difference, especially for families and people travelling from across the City Region.
“The success of the Bootle service to Everton’s new stadium shows there’s a real demand for this kind of connection, so it’s great to see it being extended to Liverpool home matches as well. It’s a win for fans, and a boost for my club, my home town and our local area.”
Councillor Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet member for regeneration, economy and skills, said: “The introduction of the shuttle service to Hill Dickinson Stadium has shown what a valuable role Bootle can play as a transport hub for sporting events.
“We’re delighted to build on that success by extending the service to Liverpool FC home matches.
“Supporters will have another convenient travel option, while local businesses will benefit from the increased number of visitors passing through the town on matchdays.
“This is another positive step in ensuring that residents, visitors and businesses can share in the benefits created by world-class sporting events taking place in our city region.”
