Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has completed his medical at Arsenal and signed a four-year contract with a 12-month option, according to journalist Vene Casagrande.
The Gunners have been long-term admirers of the Brazil international and were initially linked with him during his time at Lyon. The 28-year-old has finally made the switch to the Premier League holders and could be presented as a new player pretty soon.
Casagrande reveals that the experienced star has successfully completed his medical tests at the London giants and signed a contract until June 2030 with an option for another year. The deal will cost Arsenal £75 million, which will be paid in three instalments of £25m.
The Gunners have had a quieter transfer window than many expected. They have made three first-team signings thus far. Defender Piero Hincapie’s loan move from Bayer Leverkusen was made permanent before goalkeeper Illan Meslier arrived on a free transfer.
Greek winger Christos Tzolis remains the Gunners’ most recent acquisition, but it is a matter of hours before Arsenal formally confirm Guimaraes’ arrival. The Brazilian is one of the best all-round midfielders in the Premier League, and had another fine 2025/26 season.
The former Lyon man notched up 15 goal contributions in the league despite spending two months out with a hamstring injury. He was equally good defensively, winning six duels and two tackles per game alongside five recoveries for the Tyneside outfit last term.
Guimaraes will partner Declan Rice in the heart of Arsenal’s midfield, but there could be phases where the latter is rested. The Englishman has been managing neural hamstring pain this year. Guimaraes’ leadership skills should come in handy in Arsenal’s league title defence.
With a deal for Guimaraes finalised, Arsenal are likely to shift their focus to landing a marquee left winger as well as a centre-back to provide cover for the injured William Saliba. Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior is the prime forward target, but it appears he will put pen to paper on an extension at Los Blancos.
Madrid have improved their contract offer to the Brazilian after the latest round of negotiations, and the club are confident that he will commit his long-term future to them. If that ends up being the case, Arsenal should quickly shift to an alternative marquee forward with the new season starting soon.
