Liverpool believed to be looking to pull off a mega move in the transfer market this summer

After a quiet summer, Liverpool could be set to significantly step up their transfer activity. The clock is ticking with the Reds set to face Newcastle in their opening game of the new Premier League on Sunday, August 23.
Quite simply, Andoni Iraola's side are up against it when it comes to bolstering their squad with the transfer window also closing on September 1.
The club has lost Mohamed Salah, who has joined Trabzonspor, Andy Robertson to Tottenham Hotspur and Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid. Spanish winger Victor Munoz and French defender Jeremy Jacquet are the only signings through the door this summer.
The Reds will play Monaco on Sunday, August 9, at Anfield as they enter the home stretch of their pre-season campaign. It looks like their off-pitch business is heating up too, as today sees the club eye a huge £188million transfer raid while a Liverpool icon has delivered a sobering message to his old club.
Huge £188m raid considered
Liverpool are reportedly targeting a move for Bradley Barcola and his PSG team-mate Ibrahim Mbaye as they look to bolster their options on the wings. Senegal international Mbaye joined the PSG academy in 2018 from Versailles.
In 2024, he was called up by Luis Enrique to train with the first team after impressing in the youth ranks. Mbaye has eight goals and 13 assists in 36 games for PSG and while he primarily plays on the right he can operate on the opposite flank.

The French giants are said to value him at around £43m. The Reds have had a long-standing interest in French international Barcola, with talks expected to get underway soon over a deal to bring him to Anfield.
The reigning European champions are said to be demanding around £145m for the 23-year-old winger, although reports suggest the Reds are looking to pay considerably less.
Should Liverpool pull off a sensational double swoop for the duo, they may have to shell out a staggering £188m to bring them both to Merseyside from Paris.

Ex-Red makes gloomy prediction
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has shared his concerns over Liverpool's transfer business this summer. The ex-centre-back has also prematurely ruled the Reds out of winning the Premier League title this season, owing to their slow pace in the transfer market this summer.
"Where we are right now, and there is still a month to go transfer-wise, I can only see Arsenal or Man City (winning the league)," Carragher said on The Football Ramble.

"I think Liverpool need two defenders and a top right winger to be in the 'chat' or in the chase. They haven't replaced Mo Salah.
"They are supposed to be going for Barcola, and I'm sitting there scratching my head thinking the manager and the people sorting the transfers out know a lot more than I do about what's going on behind the scenes, but we have about four players who can play left wing, and we are going for Barcola.
"They haven't got one player who plays on the right wing in the squad. I'm a little bit worried but what I would say about Liverpool and people above, with the people above, I do trust them in terms of over the last decade or so, how they have gone about their business — they sell well, they bring in good fees. There must be something up their sleeve.”
