Everton have completed the signing of Christian Norgaard from Arsenal in a deal worth a reported £7 million, bringing an end to the Denmark international’s brief stay in north London after just one season.
The 32-year-old midfielder joined ARSENAL from Brentford last summer in a deal worth an initial £10 million, but struggled to establish himself as a regular under Mikel Arteta.
Limited opportunities in a squad packed with midfield talent meant Norgaard made only seven Premier League appearances, with just one start, while featuring 20 times across all competitions during the 2025-26 campaign.
Everton confirmed the transfer on Wednesday, with Norgaard signing a two-year contract as David Moyes continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League season. The experienced midfielder becomes Everton’s latest summer addition and is expected to provide leadership and stability in the middle of the park.
Speaking after the move was announced, Norgaard said he was excited by Everton’s ambition and the opportunity to play a more prominent role. The Denmark international highlighted conversations with Moyes as a key factor in his decision, while also praising the passion of the Everton supporters and the club’s long-term vision.
His departure also reflects Arsenal’s ongoing squad reshaping following their Premier League title-winning campaign.
Arteta had previously paid tribute to Norgaard’s professionalism and influence behind the scenes, despite his limited game time, acknowledging the midfielder’s positive contribution during his year at the Emirates.
Norgaard arrived at Arsenal with a strong reputation after six successful seasons at Brentford, where he captained the Bees and played a pivotal role in their promotion to the Premier League and subsequent top-flight consolidation. However, fierce competition for places at Arsenal prevented him from becoming a regular starter.
The transfer is also expected to create further room for Arsenal’s midfield overhaul, with the club continuing to pursue additional reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
Selling Norgaard for £7 million allows the Gunners to recoup a significant portion of the fee they paid just 12 months ago while reducing the wage bill as they prepare for another campaign challenging on multiple fronts
