Huge if true: Liverpool in talks over PSG transfer raid worth£212m

Liverpool may be set to spring into action by signing three PSG players this summer, which would give them the quality and depth to compete at the top again.

The 2025/26 season was dire for Liverpool, with fans frustrated by the boring and emotionless style of football that ultimately saw Arne Slot receive the sack at the end of the season.

Andoni Iraola has now joined the Reds from Bournemouth, where his aggressive and front-footed style of football saw him quickly become one of the highest-rated managers in the Premier League.

With high-pressing football returning to Anfield, they need pacy wingers skilled in 1v1 battles, while Liverpool defenders will need to get used to playing in a high line again.

Much of this can be addressed with the reported transfers Liverpool are pursuing in triple talks with PSG.

Barcola, Mbaye and Zabarnyi could all join Liverpool if reports are true

Reports in the last few days suggest that Liverpool want Bradley Barcola, Illia Zabarnyi and Ibrahim Mbaye, which could cost the Reds a total of £212m, which in turn will take their summer spending to just over £300m.

Barcola

Liverpool are in talks with PSG to sign Barcola, with it being reported that the Merseysiders are hoping to spend between £103m and £110m to get this deal done.

Barcola has 33 goals and 28 assists across the last two season, but given his limited game time due to playing deputy to Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, he could outperform those numbers with increased minutes at Liverpool.

Mbaye

Widespread reports over the last 36 hours suggest that Liverpool also want to sign Ibrahima Mbaye in attack, with PSG willing to sell for around €50 million (£42m). The Senegal star is only 18, so he will need to be protected; however, he is more than ready to make a major contribution at Liverpool.

Andoni Iraola is the perfect manager to platform his talent given what he accomplished with teenagers Rayan and Eli Junior Kroupi at Bournemouth last season. The Spaniard was, in part, signed for his dedication to trusting youth talent compared to Slot’s apparent refusal to give game time to younger players.

Jurgen Klopp was a manager who only got the best out of his squad, but also showed unprecedented faith in Liverpool academy talent, and Iraola is a similar coach in this regard.

Zabarnyi

The Ukrainian is a former Iraola pupil, and talks this week claim that Liverpool are in talks with his agents, who also represent Curtis Jones’s affairs.

The former Bournemouth centre-back is not only familiar with Iraola’s tactical philosophy, but he is also well-accustomed to playing in a high line after his days on the south coast and in PSG’s aggressive defence.

Liverpool will need a centre-back to partner Virgil van Dijk, who is skilled in 1v1 duels. The drawback of aggressive high-pressing is that it leaves your backline exposed, so much like Ibrahima Konate, Zabarnyi’s ability to defend on his own would be priceless.

Well, not priceless. PSG are demanding £60m for his services.
