Liverpool have dominated the media this summer.
Whether it's been about replacing Arne Slot or trying to find Mohamed Salah's successor, the Reds have been at the centre of attention for some time now.
Andoni Iraola still has a lot of work to do at Anfield before Liverpool get back to their best and, if he doesn't manage to improve their ranks massively, some serious questions will need to be asked of the Reds' recruitment team, that is, especially since everyone knows how badly they need new players.
The Reds' fanbase were told that another mega rebuild was on the way but, now that we're over a month into the summer transfer window, that is clearly not going to be the case.
Liverpool spent way too much time trying to entice Yan Diomande and now, all of their focus seems to be on signing Bradley Barcola which, at the moment, also feels like a bit of a lost cause.
However, a fresh report has now shared an insight into how the Reds' summer could end up going.
Liverpool will only sign a new midfielder if Curtis Jones leaves
Even before Arne Slot was relieved of his duties, Curtis Jones' future has been up in the air.
The Englishman has been linked with several moves away from Anfield over the last 18 months or so and, now that he's in the final year of his contract, a decision needs to be made soon.
If Liverpool keep hold of him and don't extend his contract, they'll probably lose him for nothing by the end of the 2026-27 season.
However, if they move him on now, they could still get a decent chunk of change for him and, according to The Athletic, that could be the only way that Liverpool welcome a new midfielder to their ranks this term.
"As well as Barcola, midfield and defensive options are being considered. If Jones leaves, a new midfielder must be signed to boost that department," they wrote.
"Liverpool also continue to scour the market for the next batch of emerging talent and are continuing to assess a number of players around the ages of 16 and 17."
Liverpool may have to sell Curtis Jones to improve their team
Even though Jones felt like one of Liverpool's best-performing midfielders last season, it feels like he's the only one who's likely to leave this summer.
Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have both just extended their deals and, after the World Cup that Alexis Mac Allister had, it's hard to see why the Reds would let him go.
And, even though losing Jones would be far from ideal, especially with all the homegrown issues that Liverpool are facing, moving the Englishman on could be one of the only ways for Liverpool to improve their squad.
They'll want to get back to the top of the Premier League table as soon as possible and, with the number of additions that their title rivals are making, it's clear that more change is needed in L4.
Obviously, there's still around a month left until the window slams shut but, unless Liverpool get themselves into gear and start entering negotiations soon, they could be left behind and scrambling for additions by the start of the Premier League season.
