West Ham are keeping tabs on Real Betis midfielder Nelson Deossa, according to reports in the Spanish media.
Mundobetis.com claims that the Hammers “will have scouts” in the stands when Betis face Arsenal at the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday night.
Deossa is also attracting interest from several other teams, including Wolves, Ipswich Town and Leeds United.
It is believed that representatives from these teams will be in attendance to watch the 26-year-old too.
Deossa wants a move to England
The Colombian was in negotiations with Brazilian side Vasco Da Gama, but those talks have reportedly been put on hold at the request of the player.
Deossa is believed to be more interested in a switch to English football, where he would stand to earn a lot more money.
It would also be beneficial for Betis, who will owe 15% of any future transfer fee to the player’s previous club, Monterrey.
The La Liga side are said to be keen on making a profit on the €11.7m they paid to sign Deossa just over a year ago.
West Ham are still hoping to sign another midfielder
The Hammers have had bids knocked back by Celtic for Arne Engels, with the Scottish champions said to be holding out for an asking price in excess of £25m.
Reports north of the border suggest that another offer will be made for the Belgian as Director of Player Recruitment Nils Koppen looks to seal the signature of a key target.
It is not known whether Deossa is seen as a potential alternative to Engels, or if the move is completely separate. Considering the lack of depth in midfield after the club opted to sell Freddie Potts to Club Brugge, fans will be hoping it is the latter.
