Man City have been in contact with the agent of Chelsea winger Pedro Neto, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel yesterday evening, Romano said that there has been official contact with the Portuguese international’s representatives:
“Manchester City have made [a] formal approach today with the agent of Pedro Neto, with his camp to explore the possibility of bringing the Portuguese winger to Manchester City.”
“The coach Enzo Maresca is a big factor in this deal because Enzo Maresca knows the player so well. Obviously, they were together at Chelsea. He’s a player appreciated by Maresca.”
“Why Manchester City are looking for a winger? Because there is the possibility of Savio leaving the club, and so Pedro Neto is considered as an ideal opportunity. He’s a player they really like, that they really appreciate, and this also depends on Chelsea’s valuation.”
“Pedro Neto is not in the list of exits at Chelsea, so he’s a player who is still part of the project with Xabi Alonso, so it depends if Chelsea receive a good, important proposal. This story could develop…”
How much would Neto cost?
Some reports suggest that Chelsea would sell the 26-year-old for around £70m, having signed him from Wolves for £54m just under two years ago.
Neto has been linked with other clubs, including Liverpool and Tottenham, but you would think that the player’s connection to Enzo Maresca would make the Cityzens firm favourites for his signature.
Man City may only make a bid if they sell a winger first
The Manchester club’s pursuit of Neto is said to be dependent on Savinho leaving the Etihad Stadium before the transfer window closes on September 1st.
Spurs have been locked in talks with City over a deal for the Brazilian for most of the summer. The player has reportedly communicated to the club that he wants to join Roberto De Zerbi’s team.
However, it is believed that the two clubs are quite far apart on their valuations, and it is more than likely that Maresca’s team would use the money from the sale in any bid for Neto.
