Nørgaard reveals Arteta’s role in Everton transfer

Christian Nørgaard has credited Mikel Arteta with helping convince him to join Everton from Arsenal.

Arteta spent six years as a player at Everton under David Moyes before moving into coaching, and Nørgaard says hearing about that spell first-hand helped make up his mind. “I spoke to him quite a lot about the potential move,” Nørgaard said. “He had only positive things to say about Everton and also David Moyes.

“He played for him for a long time and the whole experience he had as an Everton player seemed to me as if he had a fantastic time here and really also excelled as a player under David Moyes. Hopefully I can get the same feeling as an Everton player.”

Nørgaard also recalled facing Everton as an opponent, and the atmosphere at their old ground. “I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere as an Everton player,” he said. “Goodison was amazing. I just remember the ground was shaking — literally shaking.”

The 32-year-old completed his £7m move on Wednesday after a season at Arsenal in which he made just seven Premier League appearances. Arteta spoke warmly of Nørgaard after Arsenal’s pre-season defeat to Real Betis, praising the standards he set around the squad despite his lack of game time.
