Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention to Tottenham and England full-back Djed Spence, who appears keen to complete a move to Anfield.
Some claims on Wednesday suggested that Spence is a target for the Reds this summer, including from Anfield Sector on X, who said:
“Liverpool have an interest in Tottenham defender Djed Spence. Spence is said to be extremely receptive to the idea of a move to Liverpool. Andoni Iraola has defensive concerns around the current right-backs. Not the only name under consideration so no clarity whether progresses but definite interest even if downplayed.”
Now, a respected source has also given an update on X on Thursday morning, claiming Spence wants his agent to drive a switch to Liverpool in the coming weeks:
“Djed Spence has made it clear he wants to join LFC. He’s instructed his agent to push for the move, signalling his eagerness to move. While there hasn’t been an official bid yet, Liverpool is currently weighing all their options. This could be a strategic play for both the player and the club.”
Could Djed Spence be a perfect addition for Liverpool?
Spence’s stock has risen significantly after a superb 2026 World Cup campaign with the England, with the full-back one of his country’s best players at the tournament.
There is plenty to admire about the 25-year-old, from his versatility on either flank to his lightning speed, and Ian Wright recently said of him: “Djed Spence was our best defender…he made decisive tackles.”
Liverpool are badly in need of full-back depth ahead of the new season, and Spence is ideal in that respect, proving equally adept in both right-back and left-back roles.
He is at a great age, with his best years still ahead of him, and his expertise in one-on-one defensive situations would also be an asset for Andoni Iraola.
That’s not to say that Spence is perfect, by any means, with his former manager Neil Warnock once claiming he “could be playing at a top club in England or in non-league in five years”, due to his unpredictable.
But judging by his performances for England, he is a player on the up, and apart from potentially costing a hefty amount, it is a move with plenty of positives to it.
