Liverpool eye move for 25-year-old Tottenham defender, Spurs would want least £35m

The Tottenham star is extremely receptive to the idea of joining Liverpool.

Djed Spence responded to his critics in style with strong performances for England at the 2026 World Cup. With the full-back concluding his participation at the World Cup last month, speculation regarding his long-term role under head coach Roberto De Zerbi has intensified.

Inter Milan and Manchester United have been showing an interest in Djed Spence. And now, another European heavyweight has entered the race to sign him.

Liverpool plot sensational move for Djed Spence

According to Anfield Sector on X, Liverpool have a definite interest in Spence. The England international is believed to be ‘extremely receptive’ to joining the Reds, with Tottenham wanting at least £35 million for him.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola wants a new right-back ahead of the start of the 2026/27 season. Conor Bradley’s injury has left Iraola short a natural right-back option, with Jeremie Frimpong perhaps better suited to an advanced role. Defending was an Achilles heel for the Merseysiders last season, and they are looking to address it this summer, with Spence emerging as one of the primary targets.

Pedro Porro is the undisputed starter at right-back for Tottenham, while the arrival of the experienced Andy Robertson on a free transfer from Liverpool should keep Destiny Udogie on his toes. With Spurs not competing in Europe in the upcoming season, Spence’s chances of regular game time look to be trimmed. This has left the 25-year-old’s future in N17 in limbo.

At Liverpool, Spence should get opportunities to establish himself as the first-choice right-back. The England international is looking to take his game to the next level, and Iraola may just be the right man to unlock his true potential. The full-back’s pace, athleticism, energy, work rate and flexibility would fit into Iraola’s system like a glove.

Spurs want £35 million to sell Spence

Despite Spence’s talent and impressive displays, convincing De Zerbi of a guaranteed starting place remains a big challenge. The player does not want to operate as a back-up to Porro for another season, and for all the right reasons.

Tottenham want at least £35 million for their star defender. Given the current day and market, it is extremely low for a player who is coming off the back of an impressive World Cup campaign. The N17 chiefs must raise their valuation of Spence and compel Liverpool to spend a lot more. For a Premier League-proven commodity with international pedigree and high upside, we must at least ask for in the region of £45 million from the Reds.
