Arsenal fear Vinicius Junior move slipping away after Real Madrid offer

Arsenal now believe their pursuit of Vinicius Junior is increasingly likely to end without a deal after Real Madrid improved their contract offer to the Brazil international. Mikel Arteta has pushed strongly for the winger, but Madrid have made a significant move to keep him.

Sky Sports reports that Real are waiting for Vinicius to respond to improved terms worth more than £19million per year. Arsenal are now said to feel it is increasingly likely that the 26-year-old will remain at the Bernabéu.

Progress was made during talks between Madrid and the player’s representatives on Wednesday. Vinicius’ camp are reportedly more optimistic about reaching an agreement following the improved proposal.

It would represent a significant disappointment for Arsenal after Arteta personally drove their interest in one of world football’s biggest attacking names.

ReadArsenal highlighted on Wednesday evening that David Ornstein had described Arsenal as going “all-in” for Vinicius, with Arteta backed by the Kroenke family in attempting to complete an ambitious deal.

The Gunners have been searching for another elite option on the left despite signing Christos Tzolis earlier this summer. Vinicius offered something different: proven output at the highest level and the individual quality to change Arsenal’s attack immediately.

Real Madrid, however, have always wanted to keep him.

Their latest proposal appears to have shifted the situation back in the Spanish club’s favour, although there is still no confirmation that Vinicius has signed a new contract. Madrid are awaiting his response.

Arsenal therefore do not need to abandon the pursuit yet, but they may soon have to decide how long they are willing to wait.

Arteta already has Tzolis and Gabriel Martinelli available on the left. If Vinicius commits his future to Madrid, Arsenal can either trust those options or redirect the considerable resources reserved for the Brazilian towards another attacking opportunity before the window closes.
