Blackburn Rovers target loan move for Liverpool starlet also eyed by QPR

Blackburn Rovers are interested in signing Liverpool defender Luke Chambers on loan for the 2026/27 season.

Blackburn Rovers need to pick up business over the final weeks of the summer transfer window. Given Tony Mowbray’s limited budget, loans are bound to come to the fore at Ewood Park, and one such target is Luke Chambers.

Writing on his Patreon, Alan Nixon states that Rovers are eyeing a temporary deal for Liverpool prospect Chambers. The 22-year-old has been involved in Andoni Iraola’s senior squad over this summer after a loan spell with Charlton Athletic earlier this year and could be primed for a return to the Championship.

Mowbray and co view Chambers as a smart addition at left-back and can offer the game time Liverpool want him to get. The hope is that the strong loan link between the two clubs can help strike a deal.

Blackburn Rovers have used the loan market well over the years. It was an effective method of recruitment in Mowbray’s first reign and his strong track record with young players will hopefully help the Lancashire outfit land some bright prospects in the coming weeks.

The path from Liverpool to Ewood Park is a well-trodden one too. Although not all have been hits, all of Harvey Elliott, Tyler Morton, Leighton Clarkson, Billy Koumetio and Owen Beck have spent time with Rovers in recent years.

Of those, Chambers will be eager to emulate the success of Elliott and Morton. He certainly has the potential to do so as he aims to build on a fruitful summer with his parent club.

Chambers impressed in Liverpool’s pre-season, dealing with Wrexham’s attackers especially well in their friendly. He could be a smart signing for Rovers, offering a well-rounded option at left-back, wing-back or left centre-back.

Blackburn Rovers have work to do to strengthen their squad. However, it can be argued that left-back is not necessarily a glaring area in need of a new player.

Yuri Ribeiro and Harry Pickering are both on the books as naturals in that role while Dion De Neve can play as a wing-back. It means that, if Chambers is signed, one of the existing options could be moved on.

Chambers might be able to offer a more attacking presence in comparison to the more defensively-minded Pickering and Ribeiro. It might be a toss-up as to who moves on if the Liverpool man checks in.

However, it is not a given that Chambers joins. The defender has also been on the radar of Championship rivals QPR, who may require cover and competition for summer signing Boy Kemper.
