Manchester City have reached a verbal agreement with Olympique Marseille for the signing of goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli.
Foot Mercato report that Rulli is on the verge of leaving Marseille this summer, with Manchester City targeting him as their new numbers two.
Manchester City Reach Agreement
According to their information, Manchester City have now reached an agreement with Marseille for the Argentine international. The 34-year-old has already agreed to move to the Etihad.
However, there are still some final details that need to be, well finalised. Marseille had earlier rejected an initial offer of €2m for the former Montpellier players.
Marseille’s board were instead asking for at least were instead asking for at least €3.5m to let the goalkeeper depart, despite his contract expiring in a year’s time.
The goalkeeper’s agent, Kristian Bereit, has already visited Manchester City’s training ground to ‘advance negotiations’. That prompted City to revise their offer. Now an agreement is in place between the two sides.
Successful Negotiations
While the financial details of that agreement are yet to be disclosed, negotiations between the two club’s managements have been successful. That’s seen as a decisive step forward in the process.
Rulli, for his part, is keen to move to the Premier League and experience England at this stage of his career. He is seemingly happy to play second fiddle to Gianluigi Donnarumma under Enzo Maresca. His impending move will also free up James Trafford to join Leeds United.
The transfer is not fully finalised at this point, but it is heading in that direction. According to Foot Mercato, there are final details which must be settled with the Marseille goalkeeper’s representatives before the final documents can be exchanged by all parties.
But there is no indication there will be any problems on that front. In fact, the belief is that Manchester City will have their new number two sooner rather than later.
