The Yan Diomande saga has finally come to an end, with Real Madrid officially announcing the signing of the Ivorian attacker today.
For weeks, Diomande had been at the centre of a slightly messy tug-of-war between Europe’s biggest clubs.

Liverpool made a serious push first, with an opening offer of €100 million rejected by Leipzig, while Real Madrid’s own initial €90 million plus €10 million bid was not enough either. PSG were in the mix too, but their reluctance to meet Leipzig’s demands eventually opened the door for Madrid to move decisively.
What appears to have swung the deal is Diomande’s preference. He initially chose PSG as his destination.
But then as soon as Jose Mourniho showed interested, the 19-year-old agreed personal terms with Real Madrid, and the club then stepped-up negotiations with Leipzig to bridge the gap on valuation.
That left PSG frustrated after feeling the player’s stance changed once Madrid entered the picture, with the French champions ultimately withdrawing from the race.
In an official statement, the Spanish giants said: “Real Madrid C.F. and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Yan Diomande, who will be linked to our club for the next seven seasons, until June 30, 2033.”
The transfer concludes a lengthy pursuit that saw several clubs attempt to sign one of Europe’s most sought-after young attackers.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the final agreement is worth around €125 million, with a further €15 million in potential add-ons, making Diomande the most expensive signing in Real Madrid’s history.
Diomande enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Leipzig after arriving from Leganes a year ago. His performances in the Bundesliga and at the 2026 FIFA World Cup established him as one of the game’s brightest young talents and attracted interest from several elite clubs.
The 19-year-old scored 13 goals and 9 assists in 36 appearances for RB Leipzig last season, and played all four of Cote d’Ivoire’s matches at the World Cup.
