Liverpool are working on completing deals to sign PSG stars Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, but they also need to sign defenders which makes news about Spurs right back Djed Spence very encouraging.
The summer transfer window has been rather quiet for Liverpool so far, with reports on Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola the most concrete we’ve had, with the former no longer a target while advanced talks with the latter are ongoing.
New talks have begun this week to bring Mbaye to Anfield as well, but there has not been major progress on this deal yet, even though he is a very exciting target at around £30m-£42m.
While one report this week claims Liverpool will not sign a defender until later in the window, fresh claims have emerged suggesting that Djed Spence is a top target for the Reds.
Liverpool desperately need more talent at right back, so to hear of links to Spence is very encouraging, especially after his impressive performances at the World Cup with England.
Liverpool receive green light from Djed Spence as Spurs become key player in Reds’ summer business
According to Anfield Sector, reporting on X, Spence is “extremely receptive” to the idea of transferring from Tottenham to Liverpool this summer, which could go a long way toward advancing the deal.
The report reads: “Liverpool have an interest in Tottenham defender Djed Spence. Spence is said to be extremely receptive to the idea of a move to Liverpool.
“Andoni Iraola has defensive concerns around the current right-backs. Not the only name under consideration, so no clarity on whether it progresses, but definite interest even if downplayed.”

Liverpool can leverage Cody Gakpo interest to sign Spence
If Liverpool are open to the idea of selling Gakpo, it would not come as a surprise to see the Dutchman become a leverage tool to bring Spence to Anfield.
While this particular transfer has yet to reach an advanced stage, there does appear to be a good chance that a deal can be struck, especially when you factor in the free-spending nature of the Londoners this summer.
Signing Spence would instil a lot more faith in the season ahead as Liverpool are very light on quality and depth at right back.
It could cost around £50m to sign Spence, according to former Premier League scout Bryan King.
He said: “I think he’s done well every time he’s played for England. They’d be foolish to let him go for £25m, that is for sure. You wouldn’t let him go for £25m. You wouldn’t even start thinking about letting him go for under £50m.
“We’re talking about a young, current England international. It’s a situation where Tottenham would be stupid to let him go.”
