German journalist: "Bayern set to lose out on £145m target to Liverpool"

Liverpool have been trying to sign Bradley Barcola for weeks and while little progress has been made in the public eye, reports state that they are confident of getting a deal done.

While a claim from talkSPORT suggests that Arsenal could turn to Barcola after being denied the opportunity to sign Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior, Liverpool remain in the driving seat to complete a deal to bring the Frenchman to Anfield this summer.

He would join compatriot Hugo Ekitike at the club, leading an attacking setup alongside Alexander Isak. The idea of Isak and Barcola playing together in attack is a tantalising prospect that is becoming more and more realistic with each passing day.

A new claim from Germany suggests that Bayern Munich are set to admit defeat in the race to sign Barcola, with Liverpool “confident” of getting a deal done.

According to a report from Christian Falk, a trusted source within the German football circle, Bayern Munich are set to lose out on Barcola, while Liverpool advance towards completing his signing.

The report reads: “Bayern Munich are set to miss out on Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, who is likely to join Liverpool this summer. Liverpool spent over £100m each on Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak last summer, and they could be prepared to pay a similar fee to sign Barcola.

“It has been widely reported that PSG are holding out for a fee in the region of £145m, but Liverpool remain confident of reaching an agreement for the highly-rated winger.

“The Bavarian giants have closely monitored Barcola over the past 15 months, with club officials maintaining contact with the player’s representatives.

“He has been one of the names on Bayern’s shortlist, and the club even approached the Frenchman to assess his situation. Barcola wants to leave PSG and is understood to be excited by the prospect of moving to Anfield.”

Barcola joining Liverpool is another example of their pull

Not only did Jurgen Klopp ensure Liverpool once again competed for and won major honours, but the German manager also restored Liverpool’s pull as one of the biggest clubs in world football.

Before he joined, under Roy Hodgson and Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool were unable to attract top talent. Rodgers even once asked Steven Gerrard to call Toni Kroos and Alexis Sanchez to convince them to move to Anfield with no end result.

Now, Liverpool are once again competing for the hottest talent in the game, convincing Florian Wirtz to snub Bayern Munich last year, and are now set to sign Barcola ahead of Bayern again and even reigning Premier League champions Arsenal.
