Former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris has weighed in on the club’s summer transfer business.
Jody Morris bleeds Chelsea blue. A local lad who became Chelsea’s youngest Premier League debutant at 17, he won silverware as a midfielder before returning to the academy.
Morris oversaw a dominant U18 squad and later served as Frank Lampard’s assistant manager, bridge-building the youth into the first team.

Jody Morris reckons Chelsea need an experienced starter
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Jody Morris was open and honest on the signings of Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck.
Henderson joined Chelsea on a free transfer, signing a two-year deal and a contract through 2028, while Welbeck made the move for around £5 million from Brighton.
“Adding Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck is great, but I would have liked more experience in the starting XI.”
Jody Morris does have a point with Chelsea
Morris definitely hits the nail on the head. When Thiago Silva arrived, he immediately anchored the backline as an indispensable starter who elevated everyone around him.
By contrast, Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck feel built for squad depth and dressing room culture rather than fundamentally transforming the starting XI on matchday.
You’ve got Joao Pedro leading the line in what will be a likely one-man attack under Xabi Alonso, while Enzo Fernandez, Valentin Barco and Moises Caicedo are all likely ahead of Henderson in the pecking order.
