Barcelona’s pursuit of Manchester City midfielder and Spain captain Rodri is moving fast, with the club making an approach, receiving the player’s green light and taking yet another important step all on the same day.

According to Matteo Moretto of MARCA, Barça and Rodri have already reached agreement on economic terms, a crucial piece of the process in any transfer negotiation. The Blaugrana know Rodri will accept their salary offer, so they can now focus on talks with Man City.

The Blaugrana are preparing an intial offer of €50 million, which they expect won’t be enough as City are hoping to strike a deal in the 60-70 million region. But Barça believe it’s a strong proposal to get the ball rolling, and are looking to reach an agreement as soon as possible.

Reports from other reliable sources say Barça are optimistic about the deal and Real Madrid are aware that Rodri is fully focused on a move to Camp Nou, and that talks with Hansi Flick and Rodri’s Spain teammates have played a key part in convincing the former Ballon d’Or winner to join Barça.

We are not quite at the stage where this can be considered almost a done deal, but the arrival of Rodri at Camp Nou can now be viewed as a serious possibility.

Fun times.
