Liverpool offered Tottenham’s Djed Spence

The left-back, also capable of playing on the right, has had his name pop up with increasing frequency when it comes to being a possible option to reinforce Liverpool’s defence.

His performances for England at the World Cup, in addition to Andy Robertson‘s arrival at Spurs, have led to the expectation that he will leave north London this summer for regular games.

Talking to The United Stand, journalist Ben Jacobs stated that Spence “has been offered around.” He added: “He has been offered to Liverpool and he has been offered to Manchester United.”

By definition, the phrase ‘offered’ means it is the 25-year-old’s agent shopping his client around, which is understandable after the summer he has had.

Jacobs is “not aware if the clubs are interested in that deal,” thus any links you have likely seen so far are driven by his representatives and from the natural discourse over his suitability.

It would be a deal that makes sense for Liverpool, as he is in his prime years and has Premier League experience. He has his shortcomings, but as a stop-gap he’d be more than useful.

For now, though, it’s all agent talk.

• Victor Munoz has put his hand up for selection against Monaco on Sunday after reporting for pre-season early this week. That’s the attitude we want to see!

• Doubts remain over Jeremy Jacquet after he was a no-show in main training on Wednesday, which suggests he could now miss four pre-season friendlies. Who says we don’t need reinforcements?!

• Jayden Danns is nearing a return after an injury at the start of pre-season, with a possible loan move to be considered. His injury came at a time when he could have impressed Iraola.

• Ian Rush has been honoured with his own exhibition at Liverpool’s museum, with the treasure trove of items previously stored in his attic! You can also watch our interview here

Liverpool leaving Iraola out to dry with inaction

Liverpool are currently prioritising a winger in the transfer window, and with just two new additions to the squad so far, the club are threatening to leave Andoni Iraola out to dry. Danny Gallagher writes:

“No senior midfield additions have been made, while the only help Iraola has been handed up front comes in the form of young winger Victor Munoz via a simple transfer clause activation.

“Liverpool will still be without £75 million man Hugo Ekitike for several months, while the greatest goalscorer in recent club and Premier League history, Mohamed Salah, has waved goodbye.

“In what world would all this not signal cause for panic?”

• Real Madrid have officially announced the transfer of Yan Diomande, ending that prolonged transfer saga. They saved the £119.9m needed with their endless free transfers! (RMA)

• Mohamed Salah has officially signed a two-year deal with Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, and he now earns the highest salary in Turkish history – that’s £280,000 a week, by the way!

• UEFA‘s boycott of FIFA tournaments still stands after not receiving the right assurances after Gianni Infantino’s antics and the support from his organisation. Time to get him out!

• Barcelona have put themselves in contention to strike a deal for Man City‘s Rodri, whose preference is now with them despite Real’s interest. Can the Spaniards afford him, though? (The Athletic)

Liverpool FC: On this day

On this day in 1936, George Kay became Liverpool’s seventh manager after replacing George Patterson.

He was in charge throughout World War II, and actually named Bill Shankly for one match during the war.

Kay ended a 24-year wait for the First Division title in 1946/47 and led the club to its first FA Cup final appearance in 1950. The Reds lost 2-0 against Arsenal.

He oversaw 354 games in over 14 years before being forced to retire due to illness in 1951; sadly he passed away only a few years later in 1954.
