Report: Vini Jr and Real Madrid agree new contract

Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid have reportedly agreed terms on a new six-year contract, putting an end to ongoing speculation about his future with the Spanish giants.

According to David Ornstein in The Athletic (£), Madrid and Vini Jr met on Wednesday to discuss terms and after months of unsuccessful talks, an improved package was put forward that reflects his importance to the club and their project.

Arsenal had made the Brazilian their top target this summer (£) and were ready to commit major funds towards convincing the 26-year-old, with the idea approved ‘at all levels’ as they searched for their blockbuster forward.

Vini Jr was reportedly open to the idea of joining the Premier League Champions, but opted to stay at the Bernabeu after some concessions were made around his salary and image rights. The new deal is expected to be announced later this week.

This will be a blow for Arsenal who were “quietly confident” about signing their top target but efforts will now move elsewhere as they look to strengthen up front.

With Bradley Barcola supposedly closing in on a move to Liverpool, Yan Diomande signing for Real Madrid and Kenan Yildiz considered not for sale, they might have their work cut out.
