John Terry has pledged his support to a welcoming banner to be unveiled at Stamford Bridge for new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso.

It has been seen as a sensational coup for the Blues to attract Alonso to the club after a 10th-placed finish in the Premier League last season.

Terry believes Alonso needs to bring Chelsea back to the Champions League within his first season at the club, although is in favour of the hiring made by the club.

Supporters group ‘We Are The Shed’ took to Instagram to pledge their desire to have a number of banners don the famous stand during the opening Premier League games of the season.

This included one welcoming Alonso, with Terry responding in the comments saying: “I’m in.”

Terry is still expected to be involved in the academy system next season, after infamously being snubbed for the interim manager role during the 2025/26 season.

The club legend remains vocal in his opinions on the Blues, and his standing at the club has an impact on how supporters see things in West London.

The Blues kick off their home Premier League season in the second game of the campaign, facing Brighton with Danny Welbeck their latest former player in their ranks.

After the visit of the Seagulls, newly-promoted Hull City will be the next visitors to Stamford Bridge, before Bournemouth, Tottenham and Manchester United make up their first five home games.

Chelsea fans need to back Xabi Alonso

Supporters notably didn’t universally take to the appointments of both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior. Chelsea fans notably booed during Maresca’s first game in charge.

However, with their inconsistent form it is time for the fanbase to put their backing into a manager who has a track record for delivering trophies to a side who were not deemed the favourites in Germany.

The boss will need a quick start to win everyone over though, and supporters flying a banner welcoming him to the club will only help him on a personal level.
