Newcastle United holding talks to sign Chelsea player

It would be safe to say that Newcastle United have had a tough time replacing the top players who have left the club over the past twelve months. It remains to be seen how they go about filling the shoes of Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes.

Those are big shoes to fill, that is for sure. In fact, the Magpies have not even been able to take care of the void left behind by Alexander Isak yet.

To be fair, it was not for a lack of trying. But they simply could not replace Isak’s output or overall brilliance, when he left for Liverpool last summer.

So, do not be surprised to see them try to sign a striker in this window. Could one of Chelsea’s forwards be the solution? There does seem to be interest.

Newcastle want Chelsea player but so do Manchester United, Everton and Coventry City

According to TEAMtalk, Delap’s representatives are in talks with several Premier League clubs. Newcastle United are said to be one of the teams to have had discussions about signing the English striker.

Now, there is another fresh update on the situation of the Chelsea forward though. Reports have emerged suggesting that Manchester United and Everton are monitoring Delap as well.

There are also some claims over the past hours that Coventry City, managed by none other than Frank Lampard, have also joined the race to sign Delap this summer.

So, despite Delap’s poor season in Chelsea blue, it does not look like there is any lack of interest in signing him. Let’s see where he ends up next. Of course, that is if he leaves Stamford Bridge at all.

Would Delap be the right signing for Newcastle United?

Delap scored just one Premier League goal last season. In total, he has managed to scored three times since joining Chelsea last year.

Newcastle United have had their fair share of bad luck when it comes to picking strikers. Nick Woltemade went cold after a hot start to life at St James’ Park. Yoane Wissa never impressed.

So, it is easy to see why a good section of the fanbase would not be pleased if Newcastle United ended up signing Delap as their big striker addition this summer.

Anyways, it does look like the interest of other clubs in the striker is stronger than that of Newcastle United. It remains to be seen if any of them will come out on top.
