GM reveals how Eric Bieniemy is giving Chiefs much-needed ‘kick in a**’ despite being away from camp

The Kansas City Chiefs are just over a month away from kicking off their new season, currently taking part in training camp. The Chiefs are hoping to bounce back after missing the playoffs last year for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era.

At camp, the Chiefs have been without offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who is home with his wife after she was shot last week in a frightening incident.

However, Bienemy is still finding ways to help out the team during practice, often viewing live feeds of the team at training camp and calling in to coach them up.

“Every organization and every team and every player and each position group — everyone needs a kick in the ass,” general manager Brett Veach said, per Jesse Newell of The Athletic. “And so him being out there and hearing that voice, whether it be ‘Finish' or ‘Alignment' or whatever … he demands that you are buttoned up on your details, and that is a mirror image of coach and how he wants things run.”

Bieniemy has been a key part of the Chiefs' dynastic success over the last several seasons, and is hoping to help the offense take another step forward this year. Kansas City went out and shored up arguably their biggest weakness on that side of the ball this offseason by signing free agent running back and reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III away from the Seattle Seahawks, and Patrick Mahomes figures to be healthy for Week 1 after tearing his ACL toward the end of last season.

The Chiefs are slated to get their new season underway on September 14 at home against the Denver Broncos.
