‘Compete every day’: Cowboys’ Terence Steele working on physicality on the offensive line

OXNARD, Calif. (KLTV) - Cowboys’ offensive tackle Terence Steele is going into his seventh season in Dallas after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent.

Steele met with the media following Thursday’s practice. Thursday was Heroes Appreciation Day at camp and Steele, being from a military family, said it was a special day for him.

“This is awesome. You know, growing up a military brat myself, anytime we can celebrate the men and women who sacrificed and, you know, put down their lives for this country. You obviously want to celebrate that,” Steele said. “So it’s a very, very special day for me.”

Steele said physicality is very important on the offensive line.

“It’s huge. You know, especially for us in the trenches, O-line, D-line, you know, physicality. That’s the name of the game. That’s who we are. That’s in our identity,” Steele said. “Yeah, it’s got to come out every time we put pads on.”

The Cowboys will host a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams next week. Steele said he is looking forward to it.

“The Rams are obviously a great squad. Their defense is amazing. So, yeah, I’m excited for the challenge,” Steele said. “Compete every day is our mantra. So it’s just another day to compete.”

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs signed with the Washington Commanders on Wednesday and Aaron Donald worked out for the Rams this week as well. Steele said he doesn’t pay much attention to what’s happening with other teams.

“If I’m scrolling on Twitter or something, I’ll see it. I don’t really give it too much thought, to be honest with you,” Steele said. “I’m really just focused on what we got going on here. My job, you know, my unit. So, I don’t know. We’ll just see when that day comes.”

Even though he’s a veteran now, Steele said he can relate to the young guys.

“Just going undrafted and having that chip on your shoulder and just trying to prove yourself every day. I can definitely relate to that,” Steele said. “I try and give those young guys advice and just what was successful for me and just trying to spread that knowledge.”
