Healthy MarShawn Lloyd takes advantage of practice opportunity

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) — MarShawn Lloyd scored two touchdowns Thursday while running with the first-team offense after Josh Jacobs was held out of Green Bay Packers practice with a groin injury.

Lloyd, a third-year running back, has been limited throughout his NFL career by injuries to his ankles and hamstrings, and also missed time due to appendicitis. He has recorded just 15 yards in one game at the NFL level.

Lloyd, Love speak on opportunity

“I feel like the confidence of the coaches still have me here,” Lloyd said. “You don’t have three years, two years and not play. And, you know, now it’s my time to give back. So I’m excited. I’m ready to go. And I’m going to show them why they picked me.”

Quarterback Jordan Love said Lloyd brings speed and versatility to the backfield.

“He just adds another playmaker,” Love said. “Very fast, very twitchy, the things he can do. And I think, you know, seeing more and more out of him in the passing game as well, it’s one of those things we’re going to keep building with him. You know, I think he’s going to be a great addition. It’s just staying healthy.”

LaFleur addresses celebration

-----------------------------

Head coach Matt LaFleur called Lloyd an explosive player but said the team needs to remain disciplined.

“He’s an explosive dude that can create some big explosive plays,” LaFleur said. “I think it’s just we got to continue to be smart.”

LaFleur made clear after Lloyd performed a back flip following one of his touchdowns that the celebration would not be repeated.

Lloyd acknowledged the directive.

“Receivers came in the running back room and said, you guys need to start celebrating more,” Lloyd said. “So that’s the first thing that came to my mind. I can’t dance, so I don’t know how to do all that. Hey, if he says it’s over, it’s over.”

Lloyd said he is also looking ahead to Family Night, which is scheduled for Friday. It will mark the first time in three years he has been healthy enough to participate.
