Former Dalton High School standout Jahmyr Gibbs has agreed to a three-year, $67.5 million contract extension with the Detroit Lions that will make him the highest-paid running back in NFL history, according to an ESPN report.
The agreement includes $51.5 million guaranteed and could be worth as much as $75.75 million, ESPN reported. Gibbs’ agent, Todd France, confirmed the deal Thursday.
The extension averages $22.5 million annually in new money.
Gibbs, 24, is entering his fourth NFL season after being selected by Detroit with the 12th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has accumulated 5,029 yards from scrimmage and 49 touchdowns in 49 regular-season games.
Before playing at Georgia Tech and Alabama, Gibbs starred for Dalton High School, rushing for 4,882 yards and 70 touchdowns during his Catamount career.
