The Denver Broncos enter the 2026 season with very high expectations after making it all the way to the AFC Championship Game last season before losing to the New England Patriots.
There is plenty of reason to be optimistic about the Broncos heading into this season. Denver returns almost every starter on both sides of the ball from one of the best teams in the NFL, which makes it easy to see how the team will continue to take steps forward.
The only big addition that the Broncos made this offseason was at wide receiver, where they traded for star playmaker Jaylen Waddle in a deal with the Miami Dolphins. Waddle is one of the most explosive playmakers in the NFL when he is healthy, and he should give this Denver team even more big-play ability.
The addition of Waddle likely means less playing time for Marvin Mims Jr., who was the team's big-play receiver last season. During training camp, Mims unfortunately suffered an injury scare when cornerback Riley Moss fell on top of him. Despite that, it looks like he will be okay and the injury is not serious, per Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports.
“Per source, Marvin Mims Jr. will be fine after Riley Moss fell on his arm near the end of practice,” Stevens reported on X, formerly Twitter. “Mims was in visible pain and the trainers looked at him. But he will be okay.”
It will be interesting to see what kind of role Mims has in the offense this season after the addition of Waddle. The former Alabama star will likely take away a lot of Mims' deep targets, while Courtland Sutton, Pat Bryant and Troy Franklin get more of the reps on the outside.
Despite the uncertainty in his role, Mims will have to stay ready for anything that the Broncos need this season. Waddle has struggled with a number of injuries during his time in the NFL, and if another one of those pops up this season, Mims will be thrust back into a starting role.
