Bruno Guimaraes told Matthias Jaissle that he wants to leave Newcastle United this summer.
Matthias Jaissle confirmed he had a “fantastic conversation” with Bruno Guimaraes before his £75million switch to Arsenal.
The Brazilian is in North London completing the final formalities of his Newcastle United exit. Earlier this week, Guimaraes was in La Manga as he bid a final farewell to his Toon teammates.
Signed in January 2022, the midfielder captained Newcastle to the Carabao Cup - the club’s first domestic trophy for 70 years. However, it remains to be seen whether he will receive the same adulation when the Magpies face Arsenal at St James' Park in November.

‘Fantastic conversation’ - Matthias Jaissle
Guimaraes reaffirmed to Jaissle his desire to leave Newcastle at the La Manga camp. When asked about the conversation, the new manager said: “I’m just here one day. I met him quickly, but the decision was already made. It was a fantastic conversation.
“(He is a) fantastic player but also a great human being. It’s tough but for him it’s also his next challenge. We trust the players who are here already.”

Matthias Jaissle on season aims
Jaissle also stayed coy on Newcastle’s objectives for the season - noting how he is still getting to know his players. He added: “Wow, that is a tough question after one day of being the manager. What I’ve said before (is that this is) a transition phase.
“The club lost (some) really important players. But that is also a challenge, no? We can see this (the situation) in a negative way, that there are challenges and we search for excuses, but that’s not our idea.
“Give me a bit of time to get to know the players and work with them. That’s the most important thing. We have a clear vision where we want to go. We want to be successful, of course, everyone wants to be that. But it’s about hard work now in the pre-season and making progress.”
