**Everton’s move for Douglas Luiz has hit a wall. Maybe a complete dead end.**
He has rejected an approach from the Toffees and now intends to stay at Juventus, according to [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/). The Brazilian’s spell in Turin got off to a poor start, but a productive pre-season under Luciano Spalletti appears to have changed his thinking.
Luiz has started every one of Juventus’s summer friendlies, forming a regular midfield pairing with Manuel Locatelli. Spalletti pushed him for more intensity early in pre-season and, by most accounts, has got it — a display in the friendly against Chelsea has been cited as a turning point in how the club now views him.
That form has revived interest from England. Everton were the latest to move, but the player’s priority now remains proving himself in Turin rather than walking back into the Premier League.
Juventus have not made a final call on Luiz’s long-term future. He arrived from Aston Villa in a deal worth around €50m in 2024, and last season was largely written off between struggles in Turin and loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Villa.
Persuading him to leave again would need a change of heart that, for now, does not look likely.
For Everton, it’s a setback but not a disaster. David Moyes has been assessing midfield options for much of the summer, and Luiz was one name among several under consideration rather than being the top priority.
Attention will now likely to shift elsewhere as the deadline approaches.
