Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz has turned down an approach from Everton because he wants to remain with the Italian side.
Gazzetta dello Sport report the 28-year-old essentially told Everton “no thanks” when they approached him recently.
New lease of life
The newspaper reports that Douglas Luiz is experiencing a new lease of life at Juventus this summer under Luciano Spalletti. The Italian coach has been using him in pre-season and there’s been a noticeable upgrade in his performances.
That’s led to the Brazilian becoming increasingly convinced that staying in Turin is the right choice for him. That’s despite the fact Juventus are yet to make a final decision on his future.
Newfound confidence has seen him reject approaches. Everton are the latest to show interest in him, however, he said no to the proposal. He wants to redeem himself in Turin and prove he is worth the €50m that they paid for him in 2024.
Everton interest nothing new
Everton’s interest is nothing new, with reports first linking them with a move last year. The Brazilian has been named as a potential target pretty much every month since then.
Those reports have picked up again this summer, despite Everton signing both Hayden Hackney and Christian Nørgaard to bolster their midfield ranks.
Sport Witness covered a report last month stating that Everton and Bournemouth had made enquiries. It was made clear in that report that Spalletti’s decision on the midfielder would be key to any transfer.

Since that point, the Juventus coach has involved him in from the start of their training camp and started him in every friendly as well. His requests for Douglas Luiz to pick up the pace have been noted, and it appears he now feels comfortable where he is.
Now the goal is to remain at Juventus and prove himself, which has seen him already turn down Everton’s approach.
