‘Interest is active’ – Manchester City pursuing €100m+ signing to please Maresca

SportwitnessSport Witness

Manchester City are keen on signing Chelsea‘s Enzo Fernández to replace Rodri, who is on his way back to Spain.

Over the past 24 hours, several claims stated Rodri is close to joining Barcelona, after becoming tired of waiting for Real Madrid. His impending exit has seen Manchester City focus on the Chelsea star.

Last month, Fernández’s agent Javier Pastore confirmed he’s “looking for a solution” for his client to leave as parties no longer have the same vision.

He said: “He did very well at Chelsea. He’s very happy, but the time comes when you have to follow the player’s path. If he demands things that the club can’t provide, you have to find solutions.”

Manchester City want Chelsea star

The World Cup winner is close to leaving the Etihad, and this has seen the Citizens look at the South American.

That’s according to Sportitalia, who state Enzo Fernández is back on Manchester City’s agenda and their ‘interest is active’.

Enzo Maresca managed the Argentina international at Chelsea and values him highly.

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has backed it all up and explains the Chelsea man is the dream target for Manchester City and their manager to replace Rodri.

Maresca leading Manchester City pursuit

In April, we covered Argentine claims that Enzo Fernández can be a target for Manchester City, if Enzo Maresca ends up at the Etihad.

He replaced Pep Guardiola and dreams of signing his former player this summer. Maresca managed him at Chelsea, and the pair have a strong connection.

The Citizens are pursuing the former Benfica man to please the Italian. Fernández’s agent confirming he wants to leave Chelsea should encourage the Etihad club, but Di Marzio warns the operation won’t be easy.

Chelsea consider him a key part of their technical project. Therefore, the Blues have set a high valuation. There’s no mention of a fee and it’s unclear whether Manchester City are willing to match whatever it is.

With a contract lasting until 2032, Transfermarkt value Fernández at €100m. Maresca’s side will likely need more than this to convince their Premier League rivals.
