Chelsea defender Benoît Badiashile has reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Napoli over personal terms, moving the French centre-back a step closer to a summer departure from Stamford Bridge.
According to reports in Italy, the Serie A champions have made significant progress in negotiations with the powerhouse, with an agreement now in place regarding the framework of his proposed contract.
Attention is expected to turn to talks between Chelsea and Napoli as the two clubs work to reach a transfer fee that satisfies both parties.
Badiashile has been linked with a move away from west London throughout the summer after finding regular first-team opportunities difficult to secure. Despite arriving from AS Monaco in January 2023 as one of Europe’s most promising young defenders, the France international has endured an inconsistent spell at Chelsea, with injuries and fierce competition limiting his impact.
The defender has shown flashes of the qualities that prompted CHELSEA to invest heavily in his signature, including his composure in possession, aerial dominance and ability to play out from the back. However, changes in management and increased competition for places have made it difficult for him to establish himself as a guaranteed starter.
Napoli are understood to view Badiashile as an ideal addition to strengthen their defensive options ahead of another campaign that includes both domestic and European commitments.
The Italian club have been active in the transfer market as they look to build on recent success, with defensive reinforcements identified as a priority.
While personal terms are reportedly no longer expected to present an obstacle, negotiations between the clubs remain ongoing. Chelsea are believed to be seeking a fee that reflects both Badiashile’s age and long-term potential, while Napoli are hoping to secure the defender on favourable financial terms.
For Chelsea, a sale would represent another step in reshaping the squad before the transfer window closes. The Blues have continued to balance incoming transfers with departures as they look to streamline the squad and comply with financial regulations, while also creating room for new arrivals.
Badiashile’s departure would reduce CHELSEA‘s options at centre-back, although the club retains significant depth in the position and could yet enter the market for further defensive reinforcements depending on additional exits.
